Strong Readers Act
At Santa Fe South, we believe it's essential for our elementary school students to become strong readers. To make sure they do, we use teaching methods that are backed by scientific research. We also regularly measure students' progress and hold our staff accountable to ensure that all our students are reading at or above their grade level.
To ensure all our students become proficient readers, our district has implemented a board policy in accordance with the Strong Readers Act,70 O.S. § 1210.508C.
The Act requires that all students in kindergarten through third grade are screened for reading skills three times a year. If a student shows a reading deficiency, they will receive an individual reading intervention plan. This plan includes explicit instruction, progress monitoring, and ongoing support to help them meet grade-level reading targets.
